A Saronic Islands cruise is one of the easiest ways to see Greek islands from Athens in one day. Ours spends about 10 hours on the water and ashore, with time on Agistri and Aegina and a swim in clear water.
Departure
The trip starts at 09:00 at Marina Zeas in Piraeus, Akti Kountouriotou 1, Piraeus 185 34. A BestCruise crew and onboard host look after you, with guidance in English. The boat is a traditional wooden sailing boat that cruises under engine, and you are back around 19:00.
Agistri
Agistri is small and covered in pine forest, with quiet villages and sandy and pebbly beaches. Explore on foot or take the optional bike tour from Megalochori to Chalikiada (€10 per person; ask on board).
Aegina
Aegina has a busy harbour town, neoclassical buildings and its famous pistachios. Near the harbour, Kolona keeps a single standing column of the Temple of Apollo; the Temple of Aphaia lies farther inland. The island visits are self guided, and monument admission is not included.
The swim stop
As well as the time on Agistri and Aegina, the day includes a swim stop at Aponisos, Moni or Metopi, chosen by the crew for the weather. Snorkelling gear and water noodles are on board. Route and times can change with the weather.
On board
Included on board: welcome coffee, tea, juice, water and pastries; a light snack, Greek lunch and fresh fruit; and unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks. Add dietary requirements to your booking notes, or email [email protected] at least 48 hours before you sail.
Tips for the day
- Bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, swimwear and your own towel (towels are not provided).
- Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes on board and for Aegina’s streets.
- Bring a camera or phone for the views.
